Alcatraz History - July 20, 1960: Leon "Whitey" Thompson arrives on Alcatraz. Leon was serving a five year sentence for Illegal Possession of Unregistered Firearms. He is one of only a small Alcatraz History - James "Whitey" Bulger is born on this date, September 3, 1929. He would serve just under three years on Alcatraz.
